What is Montessori?

“Isn’t that the place where children do whatever they like, and don’t have to wear shoes?”

This seems to be a common phrase uttered by people who have never observed a Montessori class in practice.

Montessori is an evidence-based 100-year-old teaching philosophy developed by Maria Montessori - Italy’s first female Doctor and a scientist in her own right. The Montessori approach focuses on independence, hands-on learning and a thoughtfully prepared environment that allows the child to grow in all the main developmental areas.

School should be a place of joy. A place where the fire and passion for learning are ignited and encouraged to flourish.
