My background is that I come from a musical family, my father was the conductor of WASO when I was a child, my mother was the music teacher and string specialist at Guildford Grammar. I moved to the U.S around 11 years old where I went to a boarding school for performing arts. I have been playing cello from the age of 5.
I completed a Bachelors of Music in classical music - cello, and then a Masters of Fine Arts in New Music and World Music in Los Angeles, California.
My performance career took off in California, and I was fortunate to have been involved in many projects and playing on many of the world’s great stages. Throughout my performance career, I always had a deep love for teaching, and had private students, some of whom are still in contact with me from teaching them 20 + years ago.
I also have had a keen interest in helping others that may be neurodiverse or facing other challenges in life. I have undertaken graduate studies in Counselling at ECU and have completed my Graduate Certificate in Mental Health from La Trobe University. I have been in the role of Dean of Year at my previous school, ensuring and navigating the wellbeing of 90 students in the year group.
It is a privilege to be working here at Casa Mia, and I look forward to witnessing the growth, joy, and innovation I will see from our students as we engage in new musical and artistic adventures. We will be experimenting with our own version of Oklahoma (The Musical), enjoying a drumming group, composing songs on Garage Band, working on a school song, and even attempting to create a Maypole for a Maypole dance routine.
“If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart”
- Shinichi Suzuki
